1950-2018
Robert, known as Bob to his friends, Dr. Bob by his students and Bobby to his aunts, uncles, and cousins was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on February 8, 1950 to Robert James Theoodore and Harriet (Hirsh) Theodore, Bob was 67, living in Maryville, Missouri with his wife Mary Theodore when he journeyed to his new life on Januray 24, 2018.
He graduated from Central High School, played football, played in the high school band and sang and played saxophone in a rock n’ roll band with his friends. Later he attended Laramie County Community College where he received an Associate of Arts degree. Bob earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts in Behavorial Psychology, and a Ph.D in Counselor Education from the University of Wyoming. He was selected for a pre-doctoral internship at the Montana State University Counseling Center in Bozeman, Montana. As part of the internship, he provided counseling services at the Montana Psychiatric Hospital and had many memorable experiences.
Bob served as President and Past President of the Missouri Mental Health Counseling Association (MMHCA). He was also editor of the MMHCA quarterly newsletter. He did presentations at national, regional, and district conferences for the American Mental Health Association and MMHCA, respectively. In 1987, accepting a position at the counseling center on the Northwest Missouri State University campus (NWMSU), Bob and his family moved to Maryville, Missouri. A few years later he accepted a teaching position as Professor of Pshchology and stayed for seven years. Bob then accepted a position as Director of Counseling and Research for the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing for 10 years. Starting in 1994, Bob and Mary also owned and operated a private counseling practice: Adult, Adolescent and Child Counseling and Educational Services, Inc (AACCES, Inc).
Bob was also a member at the Masonic Lodge #470 in Maryville, Missouri where he served as Worshipful Master for one year and a member since 1997.
Bob married Stacia Thorpe in Newcastle, Wyoming when he was 25. To that marriage was born two children, Jason and Brook. They later divorced at the beginning of 1991.
Bob married Mary Ellen (Austin) Briggs in Maryville Missouri on July 9th 1994. She had three boys from a previous marriage, Todd, Clifford, and Lucas Briggs. Bob and Mary celebrated 23 years together this past July and until the time of Bob’s death in Maryville, 2018.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Harriet (Hirsh) Theodore, four grand-parents, Uncle Charles and Aunt Juanita Hirsh, Omaha, NE and cousin, Christine Hirsh, IA.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Theodore, and their children, Jason Acopolis, Columbia, MO, Brook (Theodore) Rogers, husband Luke, Omaha, NE, Todd Briggs, wife Sherri, Clearfield, IA, Clifford Briggs, wife Tonya, Clearfield, IA, and Lucas Briggs, wife Danelle, Lenox, IA and 16 grandchildren. Bob was also survived by his sister Sharon Aguirre and husband Fedrico, her 3 children, Matt, Laney and Brent; cousins Gary Hirsh, Patty (Hirsh) Dickerson, Michael Hirsh, Mary Beth Hirsh, and Judy (Hirsh) Van Horn, Uncle Laddie and Nelda Hirsh and their children Brian, Karen, Stephanie and Linda.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Maryville in the spring with the date to be announced later. Prayers and remembrances will be provided by the Masonic Nodaway Lodge #470, Maryville.
