Leo Duane Beck

Leo Duane Beck, age 87, of Sharpsburg, Iowa went home to be with the Lord, March 13, 2018 at the Hospice Home in Creston, Iowa. Private graveside funeral services were held at Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to HCI Hospice or The Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield, Iowa. Cummings Family Funeral Home was entrusted with the services for Mr. Beck. Duane was the youngest of three sons born to Albert and Esther (Oleson) Beck at their home northwest of Sharpsburg, Iowa on August 27, 1930. He graduated from Grove #9 and started his lifelong occupation of farming.
He lived in Taylor County all his life with the exception of being drafted into the Army in 1951. He completed his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, as part of the 12th Armored Division, where he was stationed for a year. He was then assigned to Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska where he served as Postmaster until his discharge in September of 1953.
On July 10, 1952 Duane was united in marriage to Lula Mae Book at the home of her parents. To this blessed union three children were born; Brent in 1954, Brad in 1958 and Ann in 1966. Duane took great pleasure and comfort in his Lord, his family and introducing his family to the Lord, working draft horses and being a cattleman.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and Melvin and sister-in-law Lorene.
Duane is survived by his wife of 65 years Lula Mae of rural Sharpsburg, Iowa; son Brent (Janice) Beck of rural Corning, Iowa; son Brad of Fort Worth, Texas; and daughter Ann (Tony) D’Attilio of Derby, Iowa; grandchildren Rachel (James) Allgood of Oakland, California; Nathan Beck of Lenox, Iowa and his fiancé Andrea Haglund of Boone, Iowa; Erica Beck of Payette, Idaho; Ashley Beck of Bozeman, Montana; Erin Beck of Brookings, South Dakota; Andrea Beck of Lakeside, Nebraska; Zy D’Attilio and Mariah D’Attilio both of Derby, Iowa; great-grandchildren Asher, Aiden and Ainsley Allgood of Oakland, California; nephew Donald (Connie) Beck of Lenox, Iowa and niece Cheryl Schroder of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, along with many other family and friends.
May God comfort all that knew and loved Duane.
