Tiger Athletes Represent Well In All-District/All-Conference

All-District Football and All-Conference Volleyball teams were released this past week, and Tiger athletes represented themselves, their teams, and our community very well. In Volleyball it was Junior Tyra Stoaks and Senior Kayla Yzaguirre headlining for the Lady Tigers. Stoaks was a Unanimous First-Team selection as a Hitter, and one of just five players in the entire Pride of Iowa Conference to receive the honor of being a unanimous selection. Kayla Yzaguirre, the Lenox defensive specialist, was selected to the Honorable Mention list; a great honor for her in her senior year. “It was great to get two girls on the All-POI teams.’ ‘It was a tough field, and these girls proved all year long they were some of the top players in the conference.” Stated Head Coach Jesse Cox.
On the football side of things the Tigers had four unanimous selections and three different players on the First-Team, five on the Second-Team, and two Honorable Mention lists. Senior Drew Venteicher was a Unanimous First-team selection at running back, and also tacked on a First-Team selection on defense as a linebacker. Senior Colton Gordon also was a Unanimous First-Team selection at running back on the offensive side of things, and was honored for his defensive efforts with a Second-Team Utility selection. Sophomore Hernan Castor was selected to the First-Team Offensive Line list. Fellow Sophomore Devin Whipple was a unanimous selection to the Second-Team All-District list for his hard work on the defensive line. Junior Quarterback Cullen Wood was selected as a Second-Teamer for his terrific work under center and running the offense. Coleman Dukes joined his fellow senior captains Venteicher and Gordon with being selected to both offensive and defensive teams as he was chosen Unanimous Second-Team offensive line, and also Second-Team defensive line. Junior Brad Larson also was selected to both teams as he came home with Second-Team honors as an offensive tight end, and Second-Team cornerback. Sophomore Jonathon Weaver was selected as a Second-Team linebacker rounding out the First and Second team selections for the Tigers, but they were not done there. Juniors Parker Reed and Keegan Christensen both found a home on the Honorable Mention lists. Coach Nardini had this to say about the honored young men: “Overall we as a team are happy for the players on this list that are receiving recognition.’ ‘We are also excited for the number of underclassmen that are returning next year.’ ‘Our seniors that received awards, Coleman, Drew, and Gordon, are going to be big spots to be filled next year, but we are happy for them to be recognized as they are fantastic football players and leaders for us.”
Congrats to all of our young people for their selections to these teams. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for All-District Volleyball as well as All-State teams in both sports. Tiger Pride.
