Funeral Celebration of Life Services for Margery Carruthers Lemon, age 88, of Lenox, who passed away Saturday at the Lenox Care Center will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Lenox Christian Church. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until service time with the family greeting friends. Interment will be held at the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials may be given in Margery’s name. Memories may be shared with the family at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox where we ‘Celebrate Life’.
Margery Irene Carruthers Lemon was born July 20, 1931 in Lenox, Iowa the daughter of Oscar Ward and Matilda (Stanger) Ward. She grew up attending school, graduating from Lenox High School with the Class of 1949. While she was in school, she worked part-time at Tyler Pharmacy and assisted Dessa Carruthers with bookkeeping. After graduation she continued to be the bookkeeper at Carruthers Plumbing & Heating . . . a position she held until her retirement in May of 2016. On September 29, 1950, she was united in marriage to Gerald Carruthers. The couple lived in Lenox and they were blessed with the birth of three children, Nancy, Barbara and Daniel.
Margery enjoyed raising her family and working side by side with her husband in their business. She was an active member of the Lenox Christian Church and enjoyed bowling on the Carruthers Bowling Team for many years. On July 4, 1984, her husband Gerald passed away. Margery continued working enjoying as much time as she could with her grandchildren. On January 23, 1993, she was united in marriage to Art Lemon in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple lived in Des Moines until they returned to Lenox in the early 2000’s. On July 14, 2003, Art passed away.
Margery possessed a caring and giving heart. She always had time for a friend or family member to stop by for coffee and a cookie. She was a wonderful baker, specializing in pies and cookies. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Left to cherish Margery’s memory are her three children, Nancy Steinick and husband Don of Ankeny, Iowa; Barbara Heckenberg and husband Terry of Pella, Iowa; and Dan Carruthers and wife Cindy of Lenox, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kristoffor Steinick and wife Kellie of Mingo, Iowa; Amanda McIntire and husband Floyd of Johnston, Iowa; Ryker Carruthers and wife Lindsey of Lenox, Iowa; and Brolin Carruthers of Maryville, Missouri; six great-grandchildren, Konnor, Zakary, Kayden, Keegan, Kalvin and Liam; a sister, Norma Flynn of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ward of Springfield, Missouri; along with many family members and friends.
Preceding Margery in death are her parents, Oscar and Matilda Ward; her first husband, Gerald Carruthers; her second husband, Art Lemon; and a brother Edward Ward.
Margery will be missed by her entire family.
