George Davis, 79
Funeral Celebration of Life Services for George Davis, age 79, of Lenox, who passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston after a short battle with cancer, was held Monday, February 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox. Visitation was held one hour prior to services. Memorials may be given in his name. Memories may be shared with the family at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox where we ‘Celebrate Life’.
George Wesley Davis was born November 7, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Melvin Davis and Gladys (Gold) Davis. He grew up in the Conway area attending school, graduating from Lenox High School with the Class of 1959. Soon after graduation, George volunteered to serve his county with the United States Navy. He served from 1959 to 1963. Upon his honorable discharge he met Kay and the couple were united in marriage on February 22, 1964. The couple were blessed with the birth of one daughter, Robin. The couple later divorced and George was a long-time custodian for the Southeast Polk Community School. When he turned 70, George retired and moved to Lenox to be near his daughter.
Left to cherish George’s memory are his daughter, Robin Flannigan and husband Jimmy of Lenox, Iowa; two sisters, Marton McMahill of Ankeny, Iowa; and Patty Shafar of Bedford, Iowa; his ex-wife, Kay Davis of Princeton, Missouri; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; along with many other family members and friends.
Preceding George in death are his parents, Melvin and Gladys Davis; a sister, Lavon Vest; and two brothers, Roquel Davis and Butch Davis.
George will be missed by his family and friends.
