Arlan Hicks, 66, of New Market, Iowa entered into peace Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. Private Funeral Services was held. Open visitation was held 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Lenox, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Lenox Public Library. Arlan Hicks, age 66, of New Market, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. He was born May 12, 1954, to Talton and Dorothy (Cerven) Hicks. He grew up on the family farm just outside of New Market. Throughout his childhood, Arlan enjoyed spending time with his older brothers, Dennis and Dwight. They enjoyed caring for the farm and animals, often taking time to fish and hunt together. He was a graduate of New Market High School and Iowa State University.
On December 15th, 1979 Arlan married Delia Grape. This started his family by adding 2 stepchildren, Lisa and Mike. Soon the couple was blessed with a daughter, Jennifer. Arlan worked for several decades at the Clarinda Company before going back to school to become a paralegal. He was a laboratory technician at Michael Foods in Lenox for many years prior to his recent retirement.
Arlan had a kind, gentle and patient spirit that earned the respect and affection of many friends, coworkers and family members. The greatest joys of his life were his daughter, Jennifer and grandchildren, Dakota & Scarlett.
Arlan was a life-long student of history compiling a large book collection on many topics but especially, military history. He was knowledgeable on national and world events and trends including politics, economics and social topics. He served as chairperson for the Taylor County Democratic Party for a number of years. He will be remembered by family and friends as a loving father, adored grandfather, good friend, mentor and caring man to all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Left to cherish his memory, his daughter, Jennifer Prescavage and husband Don of Gilbert, Arizona; his mother Dorothy Hicks; stepchildren Lisa Moore (Jeff) and Mike Grape (Michelle); granddaughter, Scarlett and step-grandson, Dakota; brothers Dwight (Pat) and Dennis (Luella) and aunts, uncle and nieces and nephews.
