Funeral Celebration of Life Services for Betty Holben, age 96, of Lenox, who passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at her home will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Lenox. Open visitation will be held Wednesday at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be held at the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials may be directed to the Lenox United Methodist Church. Memories may be shared with the family at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox where we ‘Celebrate Life’.
Betty Louise (Reynolds) Holben was born December 9, 1924, in Lenox, Iowa the daughter of Pearl Reynolds and Annis (Trost) Reynolds. She was the third child in a family of six brothers, Gerald, Harold, Robert and two sisters, Virginia and Evelyn. Her parents took another girl, Adelyn Cox, to raise in their family. Betty grew up attending school in Lenox, graduating from Lenox High School with the Class of 1942. After graduation, Betty moved to Des Moines to work for a year, returning to Lenox to work as a bookkeeper and secretary. In May of 1947, she was united in marriage to Eugene C. Holben and to this loving union three children were born, David Eugene, Janet Sue and Jeanne Anne. Once the children were all in school, Betty returned to the work force, retiring in 1986. Betty was active in her church, being a lifetime member of the Lenox United Methodist Church and was active on many committees there.
Left to cherish Betty’s memory is her daughter, Janet Sue and husband Chuck Petersen of Elkhorn, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Tom Holben and wife Mistie of Shenandoah, Iowa; Jeni Klute and husband Paul of Athens, Georgia; Joni Walston and husband Eddie of Danielsville, Georgia; Jeremy Holben and wife Amie of Waukee, Iowa; Shannon Brostad and husband Jared of Urbandale, Iowa; Jordan Black and wife Megan of Omaha, Nebraska; Ashley Petersen and fiancé Michael Bernard of Omaha, Nebraska; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granchild; three sisters, Virginia Bennett of Creston, Iowa; Evelyn Ver Steeg of Altoona, Iowa; Adelyn Cox and husband Jack of Hornick, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Millie Reynolds of California; Dot Reynolds of Carroll, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Janet Holben of Des Moines, Iowa; along with many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Betty in death are her parents Pearl and Annis Reynolds; her loving husband Gene in 1983; her beloved son, David in 2003; her beloved daughter, Jeanne in 2000; three brothers, Gerald, Harold and Robert Reynolds; two brothers-in-law, Fred Ver Steeg and Roy Bennett.
We will forever hold the precious memories of Betty in our hearts.
May she be at peace in God’s loving care.
