Tigers Crowned District Champs

By Tyler Peterson
The Lenox Tiger football team was crowned District Nine Champion last Friday night after they won a double overtime thriller over Fremont-Mills.
The Tigers finished off their perfect regular season with the best overall team effort in a single game all year. Up to last week’s matchup the Tiger starters hadn’t played a full game all season, and it was great to see them persevere in overtime to get the ‘W’ over a very talented Fremont-Mills team. For the second straight game the Tigers had to come from behind in the first half as FM scored the first two touchdowns of the game to take a 14-0 lead.
The goose egg for the Tigers was broken by senior Jonathon Weaver late in the first quarter as he caught a 51 yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Gabe Funk. Funk followed the lead of the upperclassman, and the freshman played with a calmness rarely seen from a freshman in a game of that magnitude. As it appeared the Knights were going to answer, senior Hernan Caster came up with a huge fumble recovery on the Lenox seven yard line and the momentum started to sway toward the visiting Tigers.
