Staff retention bonuses, non-renewal of shared wrestling program approved by Lenox school board

The Lenox School Board took a tour of the facilities under construction, approved staff retention bonuses, filled several open positions, and dissolved shared wrestling program with Bedford at their March 9 monthly meeting.
Adam Hawxby from Estes took the board and administration on a tour of the new facilities. Drywall has started in the athletic center, tile is being laid in the lobby restrooms, ceilings are going up in the elementary classrooms and CTE addition, and millwork has started in band and CTE area. Current projected project cost is $11,214,713. A change order of $1,500 was approved and included larger panels for the north area. A credit of $15,780 for the press box was deducted from project cost.
The board approved staff retention bonuses. Staff who are currently under contract and remain under contract will receive the bonus based on years of service. Payments will be prorated for employees who are not under a full time contract. Those who have worked for the district for one to four years will receive $1,000; five to nine years will receive $1,250; and 10+ years will receive $1,500. Payments will be made in two equal payments with the first payment made on November 18, 2022 and the second payment on February 23, 2023. Esser III funds will fund the bonus.
The board approved non-renewal of the shared wrestling agreement with Bedford. The board held a work session on February 22 and talked about the pros and cons of continuing the shared program. The two school districts began to share the wrestling program in the 2007-2008 school year. The board agreed to extend an invitation to Bedford to wrestle under the Lenox program.
New staff hired to fill positions included: Briana Hensley, Kaela David, and Katelyn Barnes, elementary classroom teachers; Paul Jameson, spring and summer driver’s education. Jameson will be paid $180 per student plus mileage to and from Creston. This was raised by $20 per student and had not changed since 2018. Lenox students are charged $230 and non-Lenox students pay $340.
The board approved resignations from long-time elementary classroom teacher Esther Schmitz, effective at the end of the school year; Cole Bonde, K-12 PE and head track coach, effective at the end of the school year; Bernice Rodriguez, Special Education paraeducator effective February 25; Cassie Still, model/mentor teacher, effective at the end of the school year.
Transfers include Cassie Still from co-head/co-assistant junior high softball coach to head junior high softball coach and Mark Curtis from co-head/co-assistant junior high softball coach to assistant junior high softball coach.
