Craig A. Grindstaff
Craig A. Grindstaff of Independence, MO, formerly of Clearfield, IA, passed away September 28, 2021.
Craig was born March 22, 1963, in Mount Ayr, IA to Rolland & Linda Grindstaff. Craig lived in Los Angeles, CA until he started his school years in Independence, MO. Craig attended Clearfield School until he transferred to Mount Ayr High School, graduating in 1981. After graduation, Craig attended Drake University, Graceland University and Metro Community College in Kansas City.
Craig joined the U.S. Air Force in 1986 and was honorably discharged in 1992.
Craig worked in the family business, Grindstaff Plumbing & Heating. After his father passed away, he operated the business until he moved to Kansas City in 1999. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, Bank of America, Trammel Crow Company, Tecom, Inc, Nolan Real Estate and Casey’s General Stores until he was employed by Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City as facilities technician for the past 13 years. Craig traveled to different parts of the United States for continuing training for his job.
Craig and his family of miniature Schnauzers came to visit his mother and brother, Kyle and was always fixing things for his mother. He enjoyed seeing his niece Katy and great nieces and nephews and spoiling them along with his dogs. He was a collector of NASCAR and Formula 1 racing. He was a great fan of Mark Martin.
Craig was preceded in death by his father, Rolland; his grandparents, Ruth & Carl Longfellow and Meda & Lester Grindstaff; uncles Ken Hebensperger, Bob Smith, Dean Grindstaff, Charles Scroggie; cousins Joe Scroggie, Brent Smith.
Survivors include his mother, Linda; brother Kyle; niece Katy (Nick) Waddell; great nieces Hayleigh and Morgan; great nephews Alex & Lucas; aunts & uncles Alice Longfellow, Julia (Dean) Day, Paul (Anita) Longfellow, Jerry & Kathy Longfellow, Bea Scroggie, Sherry Hebensperger, Ann Grindstaff; and cousins.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 4 at the Clearfield Christian Church. A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided by the family. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements.
