June 21,2023 Lois Irene Blessman

Lois Irene Blessman was born to John and Grace Blessman on October 12, 1929, in Ringgold County, North of Clearfield.  Lois passed away on June 12, 2023, at the age of 93.
Lois was baptized in the Calvary Church and later joined the Clearfield United Methodist Church.  Church work was very important to her so Lois taught Sunday School, Bible School, was a Choir Leader, and member of the United Methodist Women.  She spent her entire life in the Clearfield Community and gave back by being a Boy Scout Leader, member of the Community Singers, charter member of the Taygold CO-OP, Clearfield Lionells, and American Legion Auxiliary.
She attended country school at Lincoln #4 and then graduated from Clearfield High School in 1948.  She enjoyed schoolwork very much and enjoyed activities such as band, glee club, and mixed chorus, but the activity to bring her the most joy was playing basketball.
Lois was united in marriage to Willis Edgar Wurster on June 18, 1948.  Five children were blessed to this union: Gloria Jean, Dennis Eugene, Brenda Kay, Connie Irene, and Marcia Lynn.
Willis and Lois made their life on a farm West of Clearfield.  They lived on three sides of the corner.  They enjoyed raising and selling Polled Hereford Cattle and going to Hereford Shows.  They especially enjoyed flying to these shows in the “little airplane,” a Piper J3 Cub, which was purchased after the sale of a prized bull.  Lois and Willis were very devoted to one another.  Lois could be found running the household and helping Willis with his Asgrow seed business.  Lois loved to entertain in their home.  You could always find Willis and Lois playing games with neighbors, especially cards.
Lois’ greatest happiness was doing for others: she was a caretaker for many family members, cooked for the Congregate Meal site, and enjoyed her children, 14 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
She spent 26 winters in Florida where she enjoyed the weather and made wonderful friends.  Most of all, Lois loved people and meeting new friends along the way.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Willis in 2006, son Dennis Eugene in 1965, son-in-law Herman Schweers, parents John and Grace Blessman, stepfather Clarence Day, brothers Leroy and Otto Blessman, in-laws Herman and Shella Wurster, sisters-in-law Dorothy and Twylla Ann Wurster, Ester and Betty Blessman.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Gloria and Mark Schuelke of Bedford, Brenda and Kenneth Stephens of Clearfield, Connie and David Parrish of Bedford, and Marcia and Paul Maynes of Lenox; fourteen grandchildren: Adam Parrish, Bonnie (Theo) Ramsey, Joshua (Erica) Stephens, Abraham Schweers, Dirk Parrish, Jacob (Nicole) Stephens, Zebulon (Andrea) Schuelke, Susan (Danny) Kastilahn, Greg (Ashley) Schuelke, Joni (Todd) Jensen, Rebecca (Kolby) Bissell, Todd (Maggie) Parrish, Michelle (Adam) Schott, and Landon (Katie) Maynes; brother-in-law Howard Wurster, 30 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.  Memorials are to the Clearfield Methodist Church and the Clearfield American Legion Auxiliary. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
Funeral services were held 1:30 pm – Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Clearfield Methodist Church in Clearfield, Iowa with burial in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox. Casketbearers were Adam Parrish, Dirk Parrish, Todd Parrish, Joshua Stephens, Jacob Stephens, Zebulon Schuelke, Greg Schuelke, Abraham Schweers, Landon Maynes.
