Funeral Services for Paul Nelson, 92, of Clearfield, Iowa was held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11 AM at the Clearfield Christian Church.  Visitation was held Friday, September 29, 2023 from 5 PM-7 PM at the Clearfield Christian Church and also Saturday morning, prior to the service, from 10 AM until service time.  Interment at the Clearfield Cemetery.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.cummingsfamily-funeralhome.com under Obituaries.
Paul Ivan Nelson was born January 7, 1931 in Clearfield, Iowa to Lyle E. Nelson and Bessie (House) Nelson. He grew up in the Clearfield area and attended school at Clearfield. Paul was also a member of the Clearfield Christian Church. Paul was blessed with four children from a previous marriage, Judy, Jim, Jeanie and Kenny.
Paul was united in marriage to Jo Ann Scott of Bedford, Iowa at the Clearfield Christian Church on July 22, 1988. Paul and Jo Ann made their home on the farm that Paul owned and continued raising row crops of corn and soybeans along with livestock including hogs, sheep and cattle, until they had to retire because of age.
Paul worked for the ASC office in Bedford for many years as a supervisor and sold real estate for a few years. Farming was always his real love though. Paul also volunteered as a 4-H leader and driving the shuttle buses at the Iowa State Fair.
Paul and Jo Ann did a lot of dancing over their 35 years and made many friends. They enjoyed traveling and enjoyed seeing many interesting places. In later years, they made their fall trip to Branson, Missouri in September, which they both enjoyed so much and looked forward to it each year.
Left to cherish Paul’s memory is his loving wife of 35 years, Jo Ann Nelson of Clearfield, Iowa; his children, Judy Sandahl and husband Steve of Waukee, Iowa, Jim Nelson of Ankeny, Iowa, Jeanie Larson and husband Greg of Clearfield, Iowa and Kenny Nelson and friend Chong of Osceola, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Deloris Spire and husband Mark of Bedford, Iowa.
Preceding Paul in death were his parents, Lyle and Bessie Nelson; two sisters and their husbands, Darlene and Raymond Taylor and Thelma and Dale Brown; brother, Dean and wife Mildred Nelson; grandson, Chad Larson and great-grandson, Ethan Nelson.
Paul will be sadly missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
