Softball Beats East Mills

The Lenox Tiger softball team went one and five this past week taking down the Wolverines of East Mills handily 11-0. The visiting Tigers scored one run in the first inning, exploded for nine runs in the third inning, and finished the game early with one final run in the fourth inning. Lenox scored their eleven runs on seven hits and committed just one error. Sophomore Reese Reed and freshman Gracie Brokaw led the way for the Lenox at the dish, both going two for three with a double and a pair of RBI. Senior Jaelynn Christensen extended her team leading hit-streak to four games with a single; sophomore Laney Stoaks, and senior Piper Brokaw each had a single as well in the win at East Mills. Reese Reed was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts, four walks, and allowing just two hits.
The next five games were tough ones for the Tigers as offense and defense continue to find their stride. Tuesday the Tigers fell to Nodaway Valley by a final of 4-13. 8th grader Lilli Caldwell got her first varsity start at pitcher. The Tigers four runs came on ten hits and Lenox had six errors. Piper Brokaw went three for three with a double and one RBI, junior Avvy Curtis went two for two with a double and two RBI, and Reese Reed went two for three with a pair of singles.
Wednesday the Tigers fell to Murray 0-14 in seven innings. Lilli Caldwell was back in the circle against a tough Murray Mustang squad, and Lenox finished without a hit in the loss.
Friday the Tigers were in Pride of Iowa Conference play against Mt. Ayr. The Tigers scored two in the second inning, two in the fourth inning, and one in the seventh inning- Mt. Ayr scored three in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh to claim victory 10-5 over Lenox.
