James Duane Wasson, 86, of Lenox, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026. Private family services are planned for a later date with interment in the Conway Cemetery in Conway.
James Duane Wasson, son of Henry and Edith (Spargur) Wasson, was born September 6, 1939, in Shenandoah. Jim spent most of his life in the Conway area. In 1958 Jim joined the United States Navy and proudly served for 4 years. Upon returning home to Conway, Jim ran into the “the bratty sister” of his best friend, Alice Ann Wilson. Jim and Alice were married on August 2, 1963. From this union five children were born-Tina, James, Christina, Regina, and Kenneth.
Jim and Alice lived in Conway until 1968, where they then moved to the current homeplace in Lenox. Jim wasn’t afraid of hard work and held many jobs over his life. He worked construction, was a certified mechanic, worked for the Gambles Store in Lenox, painting houses and installing windows, was an avid building and the world’s best gardener. Jim also worked for the Totes Factory in Lenox for over 20 years until it’s closing. From there Jim drove daily to Red Oak and worked for 17 years for D&L, until his retirement in 2001.
Jim will always be remembered for his bountiful gardens and his immaculate yard. Jim and Alixe raised large garden and sold their produce from their picnic table. Jim and Alice enjoyed traveling, setting up for flea markets, garage sales, casinos and spending time with family. Jim loved to visit and had his “route” in which he traveled. Jim had the kindest of souls and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Tina (Rex) Kinser of Corning; James (Tamara Wasson of Perry; Christina (Dan) Cashatt of Papillion, NE; Regina (Steve) Oshel of Creston; and Kenneth (Lisa) Wasson of Nevada, MO; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters Kathy Garner of Bedford; Shirley (Bob) Spencer of Red Oak; and brother Bob Wasson of Waukee; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Alice Ann; his parents Henry and Edith Wasson; mother and father-in-law Eldon and Alice Wilson; brothers Delbert and Kenny Wasson; sister Phyliss Jamison; brothers-in-law William and Robert Wilson, Marvin McMillin, James Supinger, Larry Garner and Bud Jamimson; sisters-in-law JoAnn Wasson, Jean Wasson, Blanche Wilson and Jean Wilson.
