Memorial Celebration of Life Services for Rita Sickels, age 82, formerly of Lenox, who passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 in West Des Moines was held Friday, June 21, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox, Iowa. Rita Lorraine Sickels was born June 13, 1941, in Lenox, Iowa the daughter of Clarence Marvin Miller and Veda Madilian (Brown) Miller. She grew up being a farmer’s daughter and attended school in Tingley, graduating with the class of 1959. After high school, Rita married the love of her life, Sydney Sickels on May 11, 1959 in Creston, Iowa.
Rita was a telephone operator and worked in a warehouse at ABC Record and Tapes. She retired as a secretary for O’Reilly Warehouse. She was gifted in knitting and crocheting. Rita and Sydney loved camping and putting puzzles together, along with the Kansas City Chiefs! She enjoyed coffee with her friends, ‘so if you wanted to what she said’ . . . . you, better listen close the first time! Rita’s husband Sydney passed away in January of 2024.
Rita is survived by her daughter Diane and son Chris, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren that he adored.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband Sydney, son Bret, her parents and in-laws, several grandchildren and a brother Alan, who died very young.
We will forever hold the precious memories of Rita in our hearts.
