Julia Frances Peterson
Julia F. Peterson, daughter of John and Metta (Killion) Porter, was born November 2, 1923 in Lenox, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Christian Church in Lenox. Julia graduated from Lenox High School with the Class of 1941. Following graduation, she enrolled into Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa where she received a major in music.
On December 24, 1946, Julia was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Charles “Chuck” Peterson at the Christian Church in Lenox. To this union, four children were born: Mark, Jeff, Kurt and Paula. She was a member of Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), Eastern Star and Junior Federated. She worked in the pharmacy at Peterson Drug, Music Teacher at Walnut Community High School and for nearly thirty years she worked as the clerk at Carley Drug.
Julia loved spending time with her family, especially hosting Sunday dinners at her home. She was well known for her dressing, cream of potato soup and cinnamon rolls. Julia had a strong passion for singing and dancing. She enjoyed having campfires with her family in their backyard and camping on the weekends.
Julia passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa attaining the age of ninety-four years, eight months and six days. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Charles “Chuck” Peterson, brother Harley Porter and sister-in-law Agnes Porter.
She has left to cherish her memory, her children Mark Peterson and his wife Robyn of Atlantic, Iowa; Jeff Peterson and his significant other Becky Craig of Oakland, Iowa; Kurt Peterson and his significant other Pam Habegger of Avoca, Iowa; Paula and her husband Mike Hadfield of Harlan, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
An 11:00 AM Memorial Service was held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa, with pastor Bob Sieck officiating. Inurnment was held at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa.
Pauley Jones Funeral Home Avoca were in charge of arrangements.
