John Alan Robbins
John Alan Robbins was born on May14, 1935 in Buchanan, Michigan to parents Lynn Robbins and Almena “Minnie” Robbins and grew up working on the “Frog Hollow” orchard.
John was very involved in 4-H growing up and loved showing his animals at the fair. He earned varsity letters in football, baseball, and track before graduating with honors at Berrien Springs High School.
He graduated from Michigan State University and then joined the Air Force during the Korean War.
He married the love of his life, RoseMary and raised her five children (Shari, Bill, Shelly, Jim, and John) as his own. They then had a son, Marty. John and RoseMary celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before her death in 2018.
John and RoseMary owned the Lenox Cafe in Lenox, Iowa. The family moved to Ankeny, Iowa where John was employed as a Safety Engineer and as a Loss Control Manager for Allied Insurance in Des Moines. He and RoseMary moved to Georgetown, Texas in 1986 where he worked for John Deere Insurance before retiring.
John is preceded in death by his wife RoseMary, daughter Shari Atkinson (Fred), parents Lynn and Minnie, and his brothers Bill, Charles, and Ken.
John is survived by his loving children, Bill Robbins (Lynn), Shelly Steele (Jeff), Jim Robbins, John Robbins (Donna), and Marty Robbins (Jolene), fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date, followed by an interment at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside, 401 NE 66th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50313, where John’s handicapped son Jim has benefited from summer camp for many years.
