Marjorie Irene Long –

 

Marjorie Long passed away at th Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa, on August 4, 2019.  Marjorie was born in Iowa City, the daughter of Hollis “Bing” and Elizabeth Ialene (McKee) Freshour.

She was a resident of the Glenwood State School from the time she was 3 years old until she was a young adult. She then resided at area nursing homes and it was at the Villisca Good Samaritan Society where she met and married her husband Lowell. They were married on October 14, 1995 in Villisca.  She and her husband lived for several years in Villisca and then transferred to the Lenox Care Center in 2004. She was an active member Lenox United Presbyterian Church

Marjorie enjoyed gospel music and was always ready to sing along with anyone who would sing.  She played cards and any dice games, especially “Farkle”, every chance she got.  She was an avid reader and would type out her favorite passages of her books then pass them out to the residents. She also enjoyed wine coolers during “Happy Hour” at the nursing home.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother Hollis Freshour, Jr; sisters Connie Hauser and Linda who died at birth.  She is survived by her sisters Donna Baker of Villisca and Rita Booher of Shenandoah

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Monday, August 12th at 10:30 AM at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca.  There will be a visitation will begin one hour prior to the service until service time. Interment of her ashes will be at the Braddyville Cemetery in Braddyville, Iowa.

Marjorie’s family wishes to thank the present and former staff at the Lenox Care Center for the excellent care that they provided for Marjorie during her years as a resident.
