Ray, or “Papa” Fisher

Ray, or “Papa” Fisher, was a true jack of all trades and a culinary expert; known as a chicken noodle master chef, a biscuit and gravy extraordinaire, and an award-winning pie cruster. He was an avid golfer, bowling champ and a master of wit; a businessman and a social servant.  He was a wheeler-dealer, a kind man, a wonderful husband, and father; a very kind and gracious man.
Ray enlisted in the U.S. Navy and traveled the world from China, Greece, Africa and beyond, retiring as Master Chief after 20 years of service.  Ray returned home to Iowa and worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after another 20 years. While living in Clearfield, IA, he served as mayor.  Ray was an entrepreneur and was involved in several businesses over the years.  His sense of humor and wonderful smile were well known by all who knew him.
Raymond Argle Fisher, 86, of Lenox, passed away August 10, 2019. He was born October 7, 1932 to Edgar Omer Fisher and Olive Elmira Maynard, in Lamoni, Iowa. Ray graduated from Lamoni High School with the class of 1951.
On May 11, 1952, Ray was united in marriage to Dora Lee Kleckner at the Clearfield Christian Church. After Dora Lee passed away on May 12, 1998, Ray married Carol Lee (Abarr) Horton on January 9, 1999 at the Clearfield United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol Lee Fisher of Lenox, IA; four daughters Mickie (Patrick) Kelly of Illinois, Kim Fisher of Texas, Susan (Karl) Larson of Texas, Shelly (Guy) Walling of Georgia; step-son Doug (Paula) Horton of Lenox, IA; step-daughter Jan (Lynn) Christensen of Lenox, IA, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by brother-in-law Dwayne Drummond of Keosauqua, IA, sister-in-law Lohre Fisher of Lamoni, IA, and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dora Lee; great grandson Lee Valentine Hassel; nine siblings. Armstrong Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.armstrongfh.com.
