Dwight Grantham, age 83
Celebration of Life Services for Dwight Grantham, age 83, of Atlantic, Iowa, who passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 was held on Friday, March 4, 2022. A gathering was held at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic from 4 to 7 PM with the family present and serving one of his favorite treats, root beer floats. Services were held privately. Memories may be shared with the family at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Memorials may be given in Dwight’s name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox where we ‘Celebrate Life’.
Dwight Earl Grantham was born in Raytown, Missouri the son of Lyman Stanley Grantham and Linnie Belle (Hamilton) Grantham. He was a graduate of North Kansas City High School, Northwest Missouri State College, and Central Missouri State College earning Bachelor and Master degrees. During his education he also served in the United States Army Reserve. He was united in marriage to Elaine Beck, and the couple celebrated over 58 years together. They were blessed with the birth of two children: Becky and Brian.
Dwight taught business courses for 54 years: first at the Lenox High School, but mostly at Atlantic High School where he also served as yearbook advisor, prom coordinator, and theatre set director. He taught before and after retirement at Iowa Western Community College. In Atlantic he joined and served in the First United Presbyterian Church on many committees and boards. Dwight was active in Boy Scouts earning his Eagle Scout and as an adult was awarded the Silver Beaver for his continuing service and dedication. In college he pledged TKE where he joined a brotherhood of life long friends. Recently he was inducted into the Hall of Honor for his efforts to construct a fraternity house after a devastating fire.
Left to cherish the memories are his wife Elaine; two children Becky Mortenson and husband Daniel; Brian and wife Lori; six grandchildren: Grant, Autumn, Kaleb, Gabriella, Liadan, and Jakob; two sisters; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Dwight in death are his older brother who passed in childhood; parents; and in-laws.
