Nina Mae (Benson) McCall was born July 6, 1924 the daughter of Neal Benson and Ollie (Croy) Benson on a farm north of Mount Ayr, Iowa. She was the oldest of three children who grew up in the Diagonal area. She grew up attending the Diagonal High School and on October 20, 1940 she was united in marriage to Mack Eli McCall in Grant City, Missouri. The couple were blessed with two children Donna and Leonard.
The family lived on a farm east of Diagonal until Mack enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1942. After Mack was honorably discharged in 1945, the family moved to a farm north of Sharpsburg where they lived a few years. Eventually they moved to a farm south of Lenox and then a farm south of Prescott. In 1964, they purchased a farm south of Lenox where they lived till Mack’s death on January 23, 2013.
Nina was a full-time farm wife working in the fields alongside Mack. She joined the United Methodist Church in 1951. She was a member of the Lenox American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteer work, calling bingo at the Lenox Care Center every week for several years. She called bingo at Vintage Park, worked the blood mobile and served many funerals at the Methodist Church.
Left to cherish Nina’s memory are her two children Donna Helms and husband Gordon Wildes of Mesa, Arizona; Leonard McCall and wife Mina of St. Josseph, Missouri; four grandchildren, Kevin McCall, Daniel McCall, Mike McCall and Lisa Gorski; fourteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; along with many other family relatives and friends.
Preceding Nina in death are her parents, Neal and Ollie Benson; her loving husband Mack McCall in 2013; her brother, Buddy Benson; her sister, Evelyn Kilgore; a grandson, Tony Helms; two great-grandsons, Brady Helms and Brandon Walker.
Nina was a life well lived. May she be at peace in God’s loving care.
