Dwayne Andrew Cason

Dwayne Andrew Cason, son of Charles C. & Letha May (Safley) Cason, was born at home, southwest of Clearfield, Iowa, on December 25, 1944.
Dwayne attended country school until transferring to Clearfield High School in the 7th grade. While in high school, Dwayne played football.
In January 1962, Dwayne left high school at the age of 16 and began serving his country by entering the U.S. Navy. He served as an EC-121 Crew Chief and then as A-3D Crew Chief. Dwayne was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in April 1966. Dwayne pursued his high school degree and earned his G.E.D. in 1975.
Dwayne married Marianne Straight in 1967. To this marriage, two sons were born: Martin Dwayne Cason on December 4, 1967, and Shannon Wade Cason on March 1, 1971. In December 1979, Dwayne married Carol Ann Baker and to this marriage, two children were born: Catherine Ann Cason on February 16, 1983, and Andrew James Cason on July 25, 1987.
Dwayne was a hard-working man who was self-taught in many areas of his life. He worked as a farm hand before going to work for Longfellow Drilling as a heavy equipment operator & mechanic for several years. Upon retiring, he stayed busy running a bulldozer, mowed yards and did snow removal. Dwayne worked for the city of Clearfield for a number of years managing the garbage truck and operating the snowplow. While at the same time, he served on the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department for many years and ended as Fire Chief. He cared for the Clearfield Cemetery and took great pride in its appearance. Dwayne loved hunting deer and fishing with his 3 sons. In earlier years, Dwayne raced cars. He watched his son, Marty, and granddaughter, Taylor, race over the years. He supported and followed his kids in their sports and activities. Dwayne enjoyed horses and was a member of the Lenox Stock & Saddle Club. He loved to ride in the Clearfield 4th of July parade holding a flag and at the Iowa State Fair parade. Dwayne loved his family and did all he could do to support them. Dwayne had a relationship with Jesus, and he volunteered at church camps and had been attending Area Bible Fellowship in Clearfield. Dwayne is a member, and past Commander, of the Woodside Post #97, American Legion, in Clearfield.
Dwayne passed away on May 22, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law Brenda Cason; siblings Charles Cason, Jr, John Cason, Irma Strasser, Christine Fuchs, and Linda Sue Kleckner in infancy.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children Martin Dwayne Cason, Shannon Wade (Sheila) Cason, Catherine Ann Cason, Andrew James Cason; 4 grandchildren Destini Youngblood, Colton Cason, Taylor Cason, Sky Cason; great grandchild Sutton Youngblood; siblings James W. Cason, Nancy Germain, Frank Cason, Steven Kleckner; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for the Clearfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Area Bible Fellowship in Clearfield on Friday, June 7 from 12:00-8:00 pm with the family present Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Services will begin 11:00 am Saturday, June 8 at the church. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements.
