Computer science program, bus inspections top school board meeting
A presentation on the Computer Science program was held at the Lenox School Board meeting on November 12. Superintendent Dave Henrichs reviewed a recent bus inspection and the board accepted the resignation from a school bus driver.
Haley Roberts and Laura Mitchell, a part of the Computer Science team, presented findings to the board in the implement of the Computer Science program. Other members on the team are Mandy Marshall, Kim Cline, Jenna Brown, Bill Huntington, and Alyssa Cline.
Roberts said they currently have eight members on the robotics team and will be participating in competitions on the weekend. Roberts outlined some of the successes: it aligns with Iowa Standards, dual enrollment and advanced offering, licensed and endorsed staff. They had 26 participate in Professional development. They would like to incorporate Computer Science into the reading program.
Roberts said the areas for growth include more classes to further education within building; more opportunity for exposure in the elementary classroom; partnerships with community and families; data implementation with student voice.
Lillie Vais, Lenox student, did a demonstration with a robot the robotic team built from scratch.
The board took no action.
Henrichs talked about bus inspections held October 28. Several buses are having rust in the wheel wells. The school is expecting two new buses to arrive by the end of the year. A quote on an activity bus to repair the rust is being done. The intown bus will be sold once the new buses arrive. Two buses were not cited in the inspection but will be in one to two years. It takes 12 to 18 months to get a new bus and the board suggested ordering two more buses. The board also asked about an undercoating to make the buses last longer.
