City Council discusses repair bill for the fire department; reviews wastewater treatment plant
The Bedford City Council approved the annual ICAP renewal, approved to pay half of a bill for the repairs for a fire truck, and reviewed the plan for the wastewater treatment plant improvements at their regular monthly meeting held on June 10.
Jackie Minor with Ewart Insurance was at the meeting to answer any questions the Council might have on the annual ICAP renewal. She went over some changes from last year to this year for
premiums. There was an increase of around $6,500, with some equipment added. The council approved the annual ICAP renewal.
Todd Perdew, chairman of the Rural Fire Association, was in attendance about a bill for some work to one of the fire trucks. The question was, who’s paying for the bill? The agreement between the City and the Rural Fire Association is from the 1950s. According to the agreement, if it is not a minor repair, the Rural Fire Association is responsible for the bill. The Rural Fire Association helps purchase equipment and vehicles for the Bedford Fire Department and they pay for annual fire protection. When they purchase vehicles, they turn the titles over to the City of Bedford, even
though the agreement says the Rural Fire Association shall keep the titles. Perdew said that there are some things that have been working that do not follow the agreement. Discussion was held about the fire department budget. After discussion the Council the Rural Fire Association to split the cost of the bill and draw up a new agreement. In the absence of a new agreement, the Rural Fire Association will be responsible for any repairs other than minor repairs. The cost for each will be about $4,300.
