Florida man makes his way through Taylor County on cross country journey

     Walking along 220th Street north of Bedford on Wednesday morning was Camilo Ruiz, a man from Central Florida. Ruiz is on a journey to walk across America, leaving from Central Florida and walking to Seattle, Washington, 3,100 miles.
     Ruiz said besides this being a personal aspiration, he has a go fund me page for The Singletons, a charity based out of Arizona, that helps single parents who are battling cancer. The Singletons is a 501(c)3 organization that was founded in 2009. Ruiz said his mother was a single parent for a couple of years and during that time, Ruiz saw some of the hardships single parents go through. He said he couldn’t imagine battling cancer on top of that. When he was selecting a charity, he knew he wanted it to be for single parents. He found The Singletons and they were a highly rated organization. Although The Singletons Board has reached out to Ruiz, there is no official partnership with them. Half of the proceeds from the go fund me page go to The Singletons, the other half help Ruiz pay for lodging, food and water.
     Ruiz said he has been planning for one year for this trip. He started this trip on March 9 and hopes to end it in October. The day he was in Bedford was day 94. Ruiz is filming and taking pictures of his journey and sharing them on Tik Tok, Instagram, and YouTube under the handle Low Life Wreck.
