Lady Dawgs Takedown Lenox

On Monday, June 8th, the Lady Dawgs traveled to Lenox for a Taylor County showdown. Caroline Simmons got the party started in the top of the first with a walk. Shafar then singled on a bunt. An error by the third baseman had Simmons scoring for a 1-0 lead for the Lady Dawgs. Zoey Nicholas then walked before Shafar scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. Lenox took a 2-5 lead into the top of the second when 4 walks in a row, Eliza Johnson, Tyla Hardee, Kinley Beemer and Caroline Simmons, led to a big inning for the Lady Dawgs. Macy Musich then ground out to score Tyla. Shafar ground out and scored Beemer before Nicholas singled and scored Simmons for a 6-5 lead for the Lady Dawgs. Lenox tied it up at 6 in the bottom of the second inning of play.
The Lady Dawgs sent Danica Matheny to the plate where she was hit by a pitch to get on base where she stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Johnson before scoring on a Beemer single to give the Lady Dawgs a one run lead, 7-6.
Lenox was unable to answer and the score remained. In the top of the fourth Shafar singled before Nicholas singled. Aniya Hardee ground out to score Shafar and give the Lady Dawgs an 8-6 lead.
In the bottom of the 5th inning Lenox tied it up at 8. The score held until the seventh inning.
The Lady Dawgs started the seventh with a Beemer walk before Simmons bunted and reached second. Musich then singled to score both Beemer and Simmons and, just like that, the Lady Dawgs were up 10-8. Shafar then doubled and scored Musich before Nicholas hit a ground ball and reached on an error that scored Shafar, 12-8. Matheny doubled on a pop fly before Johnson ground out and scored Nicholas. Matheny scored on a passed ball to end the scoring party with the Lady Dawgs up 14-8. Lenox scored two in the bottom of the inning to make the final score 14-10.
Simmons had 2 hits (1B, 2B), 2 walks and scored 3 runs. Musich had 2 hits (1B) and 3 RBIs. Shafar had 3 hits (1B-2, 2B), 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Nicholas had 3 hits (1B), 2 RBI, 1 walk, and 1 run scored. Aniya had 1 hit (1B) and 1 RBI. Matheny had 2 hits (1B, 2B) and scored 2 runs. Johnson had 2 walks, 1 RBI and scored 1 run. Tyla had 1 hit (1B), 1 walk, 1 RBI, and 1 run scored. Beemer had 2 hits (1B), 1 RBI, 2 walks and scored 2 runs. Kenley Irvin scored 1 run. Musich started in the circle for the Lady Dawgs facing 4 batters, giving up 4 runs on 4 walks. Matheny came in relief and faced 32 batters giving up 8 hits, 6 runs, and 3 walks while collecting 5 strikeouts.
