Fourth of July activities in Taylor County

         Taylor County will be the place to be this 4th of July to celebrate the 250th birthday of America!

Bedford will start off their activities on July 3rd with fireworks at Lake of Three Fires, beginning at dusk. The parade will start at 10 a.m.  on July 4th with the theme of “Happy 250th Birthday USA, 1776-2026.” Mrs. Edra Neumeyer will lead the parade as the Grand Marshal. Line up will start at 9 a.m. like in year’s past. A lunch will be served in the courtyard following the parade by the Bedford Area Chamber and the Taylor County Cattlemen. The Taylor County Historical Museum will be open from 1-4 p.m.

New Market activities for July 3rd include a pitch and cribbage tournament in the community building at 1:30 p.m. Pie Judging will take place at the Miner Pavilion at 2 p.m. Sand volleyball tournament will start at 5 p.m. behind the Miner Pavilion. The Women Who Care will host a potluck supper in the park at 6 p.m. with the pie auction following at 7 p.m. The draft horse pull will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the park as well. A bags/corn hole tournament will also start at 7:30 at the Miner Pavilion. A street dance by Wicked Wendy’s will start at 8 p.m.

To kick off the morning of July 4th, there will be a Women Who Care breakfast at the community building from 7-10 a.m. The sign-up for the Miner 5k run will start at 7 a.m. with the run starting at 8 a.m. The ATV horseshoe drag race registration also starts at 7 a.m. with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. there will be an antique car, truck, engine and tractor show on Lafayette Street. The New Market Area Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then again from 2-5 p.m. The parade will start at 1 p.m. with the theme of “Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom.” Bingo in the pavilion will follow the parade. The Northwest Missouri Tractor Pullers will start the tractor pull at 2 p.m. in the park. At 2:30 p.m. a kids sanctioned pedal pull will be held on Lafayette Street. Also for the kids, there will be a water fight put on by the New Market Fire Department, also taking place on Lafayette Street at 4 p.m. The kids money grab will be held in the park at 5 p.m. Sarah Davison and High Road will be performing in the park at 7:30 p.m. A flag retirement will take place at 9:45 p.m. followed by Southwest Iowa’s finest fireworks display at 10 p.m.

Clearfield will also have a full day of activities for all ages on the 4th of July. Activities in Clearfield kick off on Thursday, July 2nd with the 5k glow run at 9:00 p.m. There will be a 5k walk or run and a 2-mile walk or run.

On Friday, July 3rd, the Clearfield Lions Home Run Derby will start at 6 p.m. The Northwest Missouri Tractor Pullers Association tractor pull starts at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, July 4th the sandlot volleyball tournament in the park starts at 9 a.m. The baby contest, also in the park, is at 1 p.m. Kids’ games in the park will be at 2 p.m. A foam party will be held from 4-5 p.m. The bags tournament will also be held that afternoon starting at 4 p.m. A car show will be held on Broadway from 1-5 p.m. Homemade ice cream will be served from 5-8 p.m. The Gigantic Parade with the theme “Stars, Stripes, Service, 250 Years Strong” will start at 6:30 p.m. a pedal pull will be held on Main Street at 7:30 p.m. After the parade there will be kids games set up. There will also be two live bands, Drew Fry Live and The Rick Hontz Family Band. Fireworks will start at 10 p.m.
