Tiger Wrestling Recap

The Lenox Tiger wrestlers put in some miles this week while in action in duals at Martensdale-St. Mary’s and Woodward-Granger, as well as a Saturday tournament in Coon Rapids. The action on Tuesday January 7th took place at Martensdale-St. Mary’s (MstM); in the tri-dual Lenox took down Pride of Iowa (POI) opponent MstM, but fell to another POI opponent- Nodaway Valley. Senior Dylan Stein, senior Chase England, and senior Jordan Martin-England all were victorious at MstM winning all of their matches by either pinning or dominating their opponents to result in a technical fall victory. Stein and Martin-England are both ranked in the top ten in class 1A in their respective weight classes with JJME still maintaining a perfect record of zero losses.
On Thursday the mat-cats were back on the road to Woodward, Iowa to compete in a quad with familiar foes: Nodaway Valley, Central Decatur, Southeast Warren, and the host Woodward-Granger. Stein slated two technical falls, and one pin to win his bracket- Freshman Wylie Brokaw won both of his contests in commanding fashion with one pin and one technical fall- Chase England was 3-0 on the evening sticking all three to their backs- Jordan Martin-England was the final Tiger to be undefeated on the evening as he won in a major decision, and also had a pin.
Saturday the Tigers traveled another two hours to Coon Rapids-Bayard to compete in the Crusader Invitational against: Coon Rapids-Bayard, Bedford, CAM, South Central Calhoun, Mason City, West Central Valley, and Ridge View. The Tigers came home as the tournament runner-up as a team, and had four individuals atop the podium. Jordan Martin-England, Chase O’Riley, Levi Fitzgerald, and Dylan Stein finished first, and all brought home a bracket Individual results from the entire week

Daysen Gregg won by fall over Coon Rapids Bayard opponent on Saturday.

Levi Fitzgerald had a great week in wrestling last week coming home with 7 pins.
Tiger Girls Hoops

The Lenox Tiger girls basketball team dropped a pair of Pride of Iowa contests this week to Mt. Ayr and Wayne. The Tigers battled #5 rated Mt. Ayr down to the wire falling by just four points 51-55. The Tigers shot nearly 40% from the floor, had one less rebound than the Raiderettes, assisted on ten made baskets, and forced 17 turnovers.

Tiger Boys Hoops

The Lenox Tiger boys basketball team went 1-1 this past week in a pair of Pride of Iowa Conference contests. Last Tuesday the guys fell on the road at Mt. Ayr 42-57 to the 9-1 and POI leading Raiders. As a team the Tigers shot 41% from the floor and outrebounded Mt. Ayr, but the turnover margin proved to be too much for the Tigers to overcome.
Friday the Tigers bounced back with a ‘W’ over Wayne of Corydon at home 48-38. The Tigers shot just under 40% from the floor, assisted on ten made baskets, had 15 steals, and forced 22 turnovers. Tiger Pride!
